ocr: Light from the source is etlected by a flat mirror and two toroidal mirrors to create focused sample and reference beams which pass through the sample chamber. The sample (shown in blue) absorbs some of the infrared light from the sample beam. Only mirrors (not lenses) are used in the spectrometer, because the lens material would absorb infrared light.
